The Wayfarer’s Measure / Persons
Nessa Calder
Former scout and field cartographer.
Nessa Calder runs the Wayfarer’s Measure on Market Square in Port of Asgoth. Wooden crutches carry her through the shop, where she keeps wide aisles and low shelves. She speaks with warmth and care, but a route beyond town always draws her into eager talk.
The city’s geographers’ guild hired Nessa as a scout because its scholars needed maps of nearby country. She had little patience for academic mapmaking, but she knew ridges, river crossings, old paths, and the points where a map stopped helping. She preferred the land itself to work at a desk.
Nessa talks readily about the wild land near town, from distant valleys and high heather to safe springs and early signs of bad weather. She wants travelers to prepare well and notice the land around them.
