Maren

Former shore raider and proprietor of the Brass Bell.

Maren runs the Brass Bell on the lower quay of Port of Asgoth. The one-eyed former raider boasts about crews she brought ashore under fire and the fortune that paid for her retirement. She claims to keep gold and valuables in her cellar. Asked about thieves, she says: “I’ve made preparations. No one would dare steal from me.”

She counts her steps and avoids cracks in the floor, correcting customers who tread on them. Cross the threshold the wrong way and she makes you enter again. Black cats must stay outside. She buys lucky charms and asks anyone who reads tarot cards or practises divination for a reading.

Maren knows boats and the people who work them. Questions about landing through surf can draw useful advice between tales of her raids. Offer to tell her fortune and she puts her work down to listen.
