The Ascot Lowlands
The Ascot Lowlands lie between Port of Ascot and Pointebrune. The coast runs from northwest to southeast. Here, the mountains stand farther from the sea than at the port. Thick forests cover the low ground and hills between them.
The wagon road follows the coast some distance inland. Trees block the view along parts of the road, though travelers can still hear the sea. Woodcutters work in clearings. Other workers make charcoal by slowly burning wood in covered mounds. Their tracks branch off the main road.
A track leads north from the road to the logging camp in the wooded hills.
Joran Pell regularly brings his trading caravan along this road between the towns.
A river flows from the mountains to the sea and crosses the road. Travelers cross by ferry with their animals and wagons. Mud covers the landing places on both banks beneath thick trees.
