The Floating Island
A floating island hangs above the distant mountains. From Port of Ascot, its rocky outline stands against the sky.
The mountain approach
The route continues into the mountains beyond the ore mine. Forest gives way to rocky paths and steep cliffs. Warning columns mark the way toward the island. Their inscriptions tell travelers to turn back. An abandoned expedition camp and a deep ravine lie along the route. A black stone rod at the camp lies broken.
Nahuatl’s hut
Nahuatl’s hut stands below the island. Rough wood and hides form its walls, with roughly cut furniture inside. Fresh meat hangs in a storage room to the left of the entrance. The main room contains a large table and a small fireplace in one corner.
He sleeps in one bedroom and keeps another for his dead wife, Ix’Quil. Her room remains tidy beneath a thin layer of dust, with her amulet in a drawer and a stone tablet in a box under the bed. Her grave stands outside the hut, with her staff beside it.
Ix’Quil’s spirit haunts the hut and drains Nahuatl while he sleeps. Strange lights appear outside, and the air grows cold. Moving her amulet provokes her spirit to attack. Returning it to its place stops the attack. The amulet remains in her room. Nahuatl wants someone to take it to the island.
